With just three letters, its is a very short word, but does that mean that it shouldn’t be capitalized in titles and headings? The answer is no because in title case, the capitalization of a word depends primarily on its part of speech, and its is an adjective. Adjectives are considered to be major words according to all title case styles, and that means they are capitalized. Consequently, its must always be capitalized when using title case, just like in these examples:
Every Rose Has Its Thorn
Don’t Judge a Book by Its Cover
A Mind of Its Own
Tip
The Title Case Converter can automatically convert your titles according to your preferred title case style, and if you check the option “Show Explanations,” it will also tell you why each word is or isn’t capitalized.
